Enhancing the mechanical surface strength of “soft” materials for the UV and IR ranges and increasing their transmission spectrum: Model MgF2-nanotube system

Abstract

Using the magnesium-fluoride-single-walled-nanotube model system as an example, the strength and spectral features of the indicated structure are briefly considered for laser deposition of carbon nanotubes oriented in a 100-200-W/cm electric field. The calculated result is given for the ratio of the forces needed to bend a carbon nanotube and to detach it from the surface when it is covalently bonded to a matrix substrate. The spectral changes of the modified structure at a wavelength of 126nm are shown.
