Abstract

A method and an algorithm for reverse ray tracing used in order to estimate the illumination from outside the field of view of optical systems are proposed. The results of numerical experiments performed using reverse and direct ray tracing methods that involve a two-dimensional function and describe the dependence of the illumination from outside the field of view of a model optical system at selected points of the focal plane on the angles determining the direction of incoming radiation are presented. It is shown that if these two-dimensional functions obtained by the two methods virtually coincide, the efficiency of the method of reverse ray tracing is higher by orders of magnitude.
