Gain-compensated plasmonic antennas modelled using a rigorous quasinormal mode theory have the ability to realize drastically improved quality factors and Purcell factors. Using a gold dimer antenna in a linear gain environment, it is possible to surpass the fundamental Purcell factor limits of lossy media. See VanDrunen et al., pp. 85–90.
