Abstract
One of the most useful applications of phase conjugation is in the area of adaptive optics; in particular, for automatic target alignment in the field of laser fusion.(1) Since the KrF laser is currently being considered as a fusion driver by a number of laboratories around the world (2,3), there is considerable interest in possible phase conjugation using this laser. Although there have been many experiments in the visible and infrared, phase conjugation in the ultraviolet has only very recently been reported.(4) We now report the first phase conjugation experiments of any rare gas halide laser. This is also the shortest wavelength demonstration of phase conjugation.
