Abstract
The chemical oxygen-iodine laser (COIL) is an efficient, high-energy laser. Output power up to 100 W has been demonstrated for brief (2-3 min) periods.1-3 In this paper we report an efficient (30% extractable power efficiency) large-scale COIL laser which operates continuously for 30 min or longer with negligible power degradation. The laser utilizes a unique high-flow (0.1 mole/s) wetted-wall-type generator 4 with recirculating liquid reactants. The laser is a transverse-flow device with a 2 m active path-length.
