Abstract
We report the generation and measurement of art optical pulse of only 30 fsec (3 × 10−14 sec) in duration using optical compression techniques. This is the shortest optical laser pulse ever generated and corresponds to 14 optical cycles. We produce these extremely short pulses by using nonlinear frequency broadening in a short piece of optical fiber followed by compression with a dispersive delay line.
