Abstract
The F2(D′-A′) laser at 157 nm is potentially a powerful and efficient laser source in the VUV region of the spectrum. Only the F2 laser can be pumped by a self-sustained discharge. This has valuable applications to photochemical vapor deposition, spectroscopy, and photochemistry. Recently methods to increase the output of discharge-pumped F2 lasers have been eagerly studied,1-3 even though the laser kinetics are not known precisely as yet.2 Efficiency scaling of the F2 laser as a function of pumping power density and pressure has never been reported.
