Abstract
A short-pulse, UV laser is a promising light source for short-wavelength x-ray lasers, nonlinear upconversion, and multiphoton photochemistry. A KrF laser is the most efficient UV laser and it promises more than 10% of intrinsic efficiency. Short-pulse extraction, however, significantly reduces extraction efficiency because of the short lifetime of a KrF excimer laser. Pulse stacking or additional pulse compression should be introduced for efficient operation.
