Abstract
A short pulse, short wavelength laser is a promising light source for short wavelength x-ray generation, field ionization, and multiphoton photochemistry. A KrF laser is a most efficient light source in the UV region; it provides an intrinsic efficiency of more than 10%. The ultra-short pulse operation, however, significantly reduces extraction efficiency because of the short lifetime of the excimer.
