Abstract

Clinical experience with more than 2000 sited eyes has demonstrated that argon fluoride excimer laser radiation at 193 nm offers a set of attributes that make it uniquely suited for the selective removal of corneal tissue. In the past year, major progress has been made toward developing elective and therapeutic ophthalmic procedures that use the unique properties of this laser. Of these procedures, a high degree of attention has been placed on photorefractive keratectomy (also called PRK or Corneal Sculpting) by both the medical profession and the public at large.
