Abstract
Correcting refractive errors of the eye by changing the shape of the cornea by photoablation using 193-mm UV light was first suggested in 1983. Since then, several systems have been developed that control the energy distribution from an excimer laser to remove more tissue either centrally or peripherally to flatten or steepen the cornea. Patients with nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism have been treated.
