Abstract
It is important to manipulate both electron and photon wave quantum-mechanically in semiconductor nanostructures and microcavities for ultimate light sources. Toward this goal, nano-fabrication technologies as well as nano-scale optical characterization techniques should be established. In this paper, we discuss fabrication and optical properties of quantum wire and dot structures for lasers, including PL from a single quantum dot, fabrication of vertical microcavity quantum wire lasers, and coherent interaction of excitons with confined photons.
