Abstract
Functional organic molecules are potentially applicable toward building various kinds of photo-functional devices if the molecules can be fixed to a certain area of polymer surfaces. Such spatially-selective molecular transfer has been realized by using pulsed UV laser irradiation. The advantage of laser molecular transfer over other methods like lithographic patterning is that the pattern can be made from functional molecules directly by simple one-step irradiation without impairing the original functionality of molecules. In this paper, the fundamental mechanism of laser-induced molecular transfer and methods to prepare molecular patterns in sub-micrometer scale are presented.
