Abstract

One of the most interesting and useful features of metal-diffused wave guides is the relative ease with which three-dimensional waveguide structures can be fabricated by forming patterns on the metal before diffusion. We have used this feature to construct lithium niobate-tantalate stripe guide directional couplers and have made preliminary observations of electro-optic coupling modulators employing this configuration.
