Abstract
It is well known that glass fibers do not exhibit second-order nonlinear processes. Otherwise, frequency doubling of light in a fiber would be very attractive because of the low attenuation, long interaction lengths, low price, and availability of such media. We report the observation of efficient SHG of 1.08-μm laser light in a glass fiber.
