Abstract
The low frequency intensity fluctuations of a laser diode driven high above threshold is dominated by the fluctuations of the pump current.[1] Experimentally, by suppressing the pump noise, Richardson et. al.[2] obtained 14 dB intensity noise reduction below the standard quantum limit (SQL). Recently Björk proposed that the intensity noise of two laser diodes coupled in series with a current source featuring shot noise will be highly correlated.[3] By using the information about the intensity noise of one laser, the intensity noise of the other laser can be manipulated to go below the SQL.
