Abstract
NPP (N-(4-nitrophenyl)-L-prolinol) is well known for its high figure of merit as a second-order optical material. We have successfully prepared thin single-crystal films of this material on specific substrates. Films of areas greater than 1 cm2 and thicknesses of ~2.5 μm have been obtained with specific crystal orientations. Second-harmonic generation (SHG) with various orientations of the polarization has been used to determine the tensor elements of the second-order susceptibility.
