Abstract

Conventional track counting in DVD and CDROM during seek is done by operating on a combination of the sliced RF envelope and position error signal (PES) as shown in Figure 1. Although everything upstream of the slicers heretofore has been designed in analog, more is now being designed in digital hardware.
