Abstract
Rayleigh scattering is known to cause transmission loss, and the structural inhomogeneity of a dopant such as Ge is considered responsible, in part, for the scattering. However, little is known of how such a dopant exists in fibers. This paper shows that the homogeneity of the core glass differs in submicron order with the method of manufacturing the fiber.
