Abstract
Active level stabilization is becoming increasingly important for WDM transmission, especially as networks begin to deploy dynamic transparent switches such as photonic cross connects and wavelength add/drop switches. The need to equalize the power variation of channels that have not only traversed components with nonuniform loss or gain, but may have come from diverse paths, can result in arbitrary power variations between adjacent channels and the need to have channelized equalization. Several technologies have been proposed for high resolution or channelized equalizing filters including MEMs,1 liquid crystal and planar light wave circuits.2
