Abstract
For the cost-effective implementation of the access network, there have been substantial efforts to accommodate a variety of services in the same fiber infrastructure.1–2 For example, Full Service Access Network (FSAN) has been proposed to support various types of narrowband and broadband services in digital format.1 In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a multi-purpose fiber-optic access network (MFAN) which can support a wide variety of wired and wireless services in the same fiber infrastructure including digital baseband, analog CATV, personal communication service (PCS), wireless local loop (WLL) and local multi-point communication service (LMCS).
