Abstract
Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) in unidirectional DWDM systems has been studied1 and is well understood. An analytical solution describing the interaction has been found to predict channel powers at the output of a span of fiber.1,2 SRS does exist in bidirectional systems,3 however an analytical solution to describe the SRS interaction between counter-propagating channels does not exist. It is computationally intensive to predict the output powers by numerically solving the bidirectional SRS differential equations. This paper shows that under conditions of limited channel numbers, the unidirectional analytical solution can be used to predict the output powers of bidirectional systems with the same number of channels.
