Abstract

We have recently finished development of an adaptive optics system intended to be a versatile instrument for imaging and beamforming from visible to infrared wavelengths. In particular, it can be used to perform broadband imaging using a visible laser guide star for astronomical applications. For the purpose of testing, the system is currently integrated with a 1-meter telescope in San Diego. However, the adaptive optics hardware is designed to operate under atmospheric conditions up to D/r0=30, making the system suitable for correcting a 3-meter telescope at visible wavelengths (assuming 1 arcsec seeing) or a 6-meter class telescope in the infrared. We point out, however, that the probe lasers we are using for our tests would have to be upgraded for large aperture correction.
