Abstract

A versatile, highly stable, and reliable Nd:YAG laser illuminates a metal-photocathode rf electron gun at the Brookhaven Accelerator Test Facility (ATF),1 where particle accelerators and FELs are being studied. This system addresses the stringent requirements on pulse duration, timing jitter, energy, spatial profile, and pointing imposed by such experiments.2
