Experimental validation of an accurate receiver model for systems with unpolarized noise

Abstract

We experimentally validate an accurate formula for the Q-factor as a function of the optical signal-to-noise ratio. The formula takes into account the actual pulse format, extinction ratio of the pulses, and receiver filter shapes.
