Abstract

Light emitting diodes (LEDs) with a small emitting area have recently been developed as sources for many sensors and encoders. For these LEDs, it is required that strong light of uniform brightness is emitted from a small aperture. For enhancement of light output, a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) is effective1 and is applied to the present micro-focus (MF) LEDs. Brightness depends on current density distribution at the active layer.
