Abstract

Upon recent successful demonstrations of soliton transmission systems,1-3 issues on their robustness to conceivable system aging and component failures are now arousing much interest. This is the first experimental study on the robustness of soliton transmission system, using a 20 Gbit/s, 100 km-spacing, 1000 km straight-line soliton transmission system without any inline optical filters in the repeaters.
