Abstract

The concept of the data bus (a single transmission line that serves a number of spatially distributed terminals) is becoming increasingly evident in the design of new military aircraft and ships. Fiber optics is a strong candidate to replace electrical cables in data bus systems of the future. This paper describes the component and system characteristics of a breadboard fiber optics data bus designed for time-division-multiplexed operation.
