Cr4+:YAG has a broad tuning range extending from 1.34 to 1.58 μm and is an attractive room temperature replacement for cumbersome, cryogenically cooled colour centre lasers in some applications. Recently, an all-solid-state self-mode-locked Cr4+:YAG laser was demonstrated1 producing pulses as short as 85 fs.
