Abstract

Narrow linewidth semiconductor lasers find important applications in lightwave communication systems. The available DFB laser diodes (LD) have difficulties of wavelength selectivity and stability for dense WDM applications. This paper reports a low cost single-mode LD, stabilized by a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and integrated in a hermetically sealed standard butterfly package. The device provides excellent wavelength and power stability and sidelope suppression.
