Abstract

Extensive theoretical and experimental work on complex-coupled (CC) DFB lasers, i.e. where the Bragg grating structure provides both real and imaginary coupling, have revealed this DFB-type as a promising alternative to the more common purely index-coupled (IC) DFB lasers. For the imaginary coupling both gain gratings [1,2] and absorptive gratings [3,4] have been realized. In both cases the reported laser characteristics are comparable to those of the IC-type. In the following results of state-of-the-art CC DFB lasers with absorptive gratings are presented.
