Abstract

Short pulse 3 µm laser is promising for medical applications, remote sensing techniques, and as the pump source for OPO operating in 5 µm spectral range. Unfortunately, low gain on the working transition of the most common diode pumped Er: YLF laser makes it difficult to obtain short pulses using Q-modulation techniques.
