Abstract

High quality factor of microsphere (MS) and microdisk (MD) resonators results in many their outstanding properties. On the other hand, such high-Q resonators can confine large electromagnetic field in small volumes. In this connection problem of radiation-induced damage of MS and MD resonators becomes important because optical damage limits both output radiation power (intensity and energy) and intensity of optical pumping Problem of laser-induced damage of microresonators should be mainly connected with their resonant properties rather than influence of absorbing inclusions and requires specific theoretical consideration
