Low threshold phase conjugating mirrors based on stimulated Brillouin scattering in optical waveguides

Abstract

During the last years many research activities were concentrated on stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in multimode optical fibers, to develop phase conjugating mirrors (PCMs) for low powers [1]. Since the SBS-threshold scales linear with the interaction length, very low thresholds can be achieved with long optical fibers. But this demands very coherent laser sources and is not suitable for laser systems as they are used for example in material processing.
