Abstract

The goal of this paper is a theoretical and experimental study of nonlinear dynamics of a self-modulated and autonomously-chaotic solid-state ring laser (SSRL). In our experiments we use the monolithic diodelaser-pumped Nd:YAG ring laser.1 For the laser operating in the Type I self-modulation regime, we study: (1) the relaxation oscillations, (2) the conditions under which there are instability mechanisms converting these relaxation oscillations into undamped pulsations, (3) interaction between the relaxation and self-modulation oscillations, (4) bifurcations of the self-modulation oscillations and the transition to chaos.
