Abstract

In this paper we present the results of an investigation into the dynamics of pulse propagation and amplification in the resonant medium consisting of two components with the different values of the dipole matrix element, d1,2. The pulse propagating in the two-component medium has the different areas relative to each component. We show that there is the specific regime of pulse amplification when a 2π-pulse relatively absorbing component is amplified by the second component, which is initially inverted. It enables us to amplify solitons, i.e., to increase their intensity and to shorten the temporal width.
