Abstract
Confinement of individual atoms allows the study of fundamental physical concepts. Storage of charged particles has become a standard technique for high precision measurements in physics [1]. Due to the development of laser cooling it is now possible to create samples of cold neutral atoms which can be confined in relatively weak optical and magnetic potentials. In contrast to ion traps the separation of two or more individual atoms is not limited by coulomb repulsion.
