Abstract

The Er3+ 3µm laser transition is interesting for applications in the medical field due to a strong absorption in water in this wavelength region. The upper laser level can directly be pumped by InGaAs semiconductor lasers emitting around 970nm. Er3+ doped YLF is one of the best performing laser crystals for these systems. At doping levels around 15% a slope efficiency of 35% and a maximum output power of 1. 1W were reported [1].
