Abstract

Recent work in the field of Photonic Band Gap materials, demonstrated experimentally second harmonic generation (SHG) in 3-D lattices of microsphercs1 and the generation of a SH light in a local mode of a truncated l-D periodic structure.2 In the latter case a molecular monolayer deposited at the edge of a defect cell in a 1-D periodic structure was used as the nonlinear source, and a strong enhancement of the generated SH was seen when the SH frequency was resonant with a local mode of the mirrorlike structure considered.
