State-independence in atom interferometry, and insensitivity to acceleration and rotation

Abstract

When performing precision measurements with atom interferometers not only the Doppler effect must be eliminated, but the influence of all types of external potentials must be eliminated, too. The earth's gravitational field and the rotation of the earth arc naturally present in the laboratory and produce large phase shifts if no special care is taken. It is therefore an important task to eliminate experimentally these influences. The aim of this project was to describe how the influences of a homogeneous force field and the rotation of the interferometer can theoretically be controlled.
