Abstract
Among the new glasses with different network formers, fluoroindate glasses emerge as potential candidates for photonics applications [1]. In this work we present the first spectroscopic study of the upconversion phenomena due to energy transfer between Yb3+ and Pr3+ in fluoroindate glass, leading to red and blue emissions. Pr/Yb glasses having % molar compositions (35.5-x)InF3 -20ZnF2 - 20SrF2 - 16BaF2 -2NaF - 6GaF3 -0.5PrF3-xYbF3 (x = 0.5, 1.0,1.5 and 2.0) were prepared using the procedure described in [1]. The pump source was a cw laser diode operating at 976nm, delivering a maximum average power of 40mW, whose beam was chopped at 8Hz and focused by a 10cm positive lens. All the measurements were performed at room temperature and the fluorescence dispersed by a 0.5m monochromator and detected by a proper photomultiplier and electronics instrumentation.
