Abstract
We report an interesting instability in the excitation of pairs of electrons and holes in semiconductors by light absorption. The distribution of electrons and holes is bistable as a function of input power. As the nonequilibrium electrons and holes emit light, the total light intensity is a multivalued function of input power. This effect is of interest to study the electron-hole drops.1
