Abstract

Mn2+ ions and rare-earth ions (Ln3+) such as Tb3 + ions are most commonly used as luminescent centers in ZnS thin film electroluminescence (EL) devices.1) Luminescence of Mn2+ and that of Ln3 + ions are due to parity-forbidden (d-d) and (f-f) transitions, respectively. We report here, a greenish-white EL due to parity-allowed 5d-4f transition of Ce3+ ions in a double insulated ZnS:CeF3 thin film device, for the first time.
