Abstract

An integrated optics spectrum analyzer, IOSA, utilizes the Bragg diffraction of a guided optical wave by a surface acoustic wave, SAW. The details of IOSA operation have been discussed elsewhere [1]. The design of the SAW transducer determines the bandwidth and the operating frequency of the IOSA as well as impac ting the deflection efficiency value. In this paper we will discuss the current re sults of an on-going study of a new and unique transducer design which can achieve low insertion loss and large (octave) acoustic and acousto-optic bandwidths.
