Abstract

The performance and reproducibility of Mach-Zehnder interferometer arrays of Ti: LiNbO3 and their use in measuring optical wavefronts were reported at the 1986 IGWO conference.1 This paper reports on arrays with improved uniformity and reproducibility. Measurements have been made with near three-significant-figure precision which is desired in some applications. The outputs of the arrays were coupled to a CCD imager and the input wavefront was measured as a function of time with a resolution as short as 200 nsec which was limited by the speed of the control circuitry of the CCD. These results indicate that large arrays of optical waveguide components can be use to process (e.g. focus) as well as measure optical wavefronts with high temporal resolution.
