Abstract

Integrated optical polarizers are important components in many fiber optic systems, particularly fiber optic gyroscopes. Designing polarizers with high polarization rejection and low excess loss, which can be easily and reliably fabricated is critical in these applications. Many techniques have been used to construct polarizers, the most promising being metal/dielectric overlays [1,2,3] and proton-exchanged waveguides [4].
