Abstract

Metal strips plated on thin films on a substrate are often used in devices for integrated optics which require the application of electric fields. It has been recognized [1-3] that some of these structures which utilize metallic platings form linear (as opposed to planar) optical waveguides, but such studies are incomplete and in part incorrect.
