Abstract

Integrated-optical wavelength-division demultiplexers (WDDs) based on the two-mode interferometer have been demonstrated previously on semiconductors1 for which the principle of operation relies on interference between symmetric and antisymmetric waveguide modes. Here we report the first wavelength demultiplexer in InGaAlAs/lnP using the more dispersive interference between even-symmetry modes in a three-mode waveguide.
