Microgear Laser -A Fusion of Whispering Galley Mode Cavity and Photonic Crystal

Abstract

Room temperature continuous-wave lasing was demonstrated in a GalnAsP microgear laser with a threshold of 17 microwatts. A kind of photonic crystal, i.e., circularly periodic grating, improved the Q in the whispering galley mode cavity.
