A New Method for Measuring the Optical Coupling Efficiency of Fabry-Perot Semiconductor Laser Amplifier

Abstract

The optical signal gain of semiconductor laser amplifier is an important parameter especially in the long-haul optical fiber transmission system. But the optical signal gain can be obtained only after the optical coupling efficiency being measured. The previous optical coupling efficiency measuring method[1] is that the amplifier operates under resonant or nonresonant condition by varying the amplifier temperature and shifting the cavity mode frequency with respect to a stabilized oscillator frequency. When amplifier and laser are inter- grated together, this method is failure to use. Here a new method is developed.
